With so many things to consider when moving offices, it’s always best to put a plan in place so that you prioritise certain aspects of your business. One of your top priorities should be your telephone and internet services.
You may think this can be organised after you have moved in but leaving your connectivity until this late stage can have some upsetting consequences for your finances, productivity and sanity.
When it comes to your Internet, fibre connections, which provide the speeds most people expect, take around 60 – 90 working days to install. Roads must be dug up for the cables to be laid down and connected to your building. And before that can happen, you have to get permission from the relevant authorities. It is an administrative headache and one you do not need after you have just settled into your new work-space.
As a rule, we would recommend considering your options for telephone lines and Internet connectivity at your new office at least 12 weeks before your planned move date. This way we can make all the relevant checks, explain options and costs, make decisions on which services to order and manage them in a timely way, whilst at the same time handling all required surveys well in advance and pushing back delivery dates to fit with your move dates.
It’s not uncommon for expected installation dates to run past their normal recommended lead times for telephone lines, especially if any unforeseen snags appear, such as additional equipment is needed in the local exchange, the telephone network requires additional cabling or more cabling is required to your new site.
