Frustrated man looking at desk phone

You’re just about to make that all important call, the one that you believe could bring in your biggest client to date, then suddenly, your desk phone stops working. As you begin to hit the buttons repeatedly praying for it to come back on, you hear a little voice in your head telling you that you should have got the phone looked at months ago when you first started having problems with it. If this sounds familiar, don’t worry, you’re not on your own.

When we run into little technical difficulties in our day to day business, we often look for a quick fix, instead of getting to the root of what’s causing it. Whilst quick fixes can sometimes be the easy option, eventually the problem will return and often at those crucial moments when you really need it not to.

When it comes to your phone system, any minor fault needs to be looked at ASAP.  However, that doesn’t mean it has to be something serious wrong with it. In fact, many technical faults that occur with making and receiving calls, is often not because of a problem with the actual phone system but with the handsets themselves. Checking that all the handsets you are using are working to their full potential, should be your first port of call.

Features such as screen display, hands free speaker facilities, extra buttons for the phone to show you when other people are busy or even just a function to ring your most called contacts, are all simple adjustments that can be made to get your phone functioning more efficiently.

If it is more a problem that the phone simply is not working properly, then this could be down to general wear and tear. One of the most common faults is intermittent voice loss. With this, it is more than likely down to the connections in the curly cord that connects the handset to the phone.

You can easily find out yourself if this is the fault by swapping the curly cord cable with another desk phone which is working fine.  If the fault moves with the cord, then you will know the fault is on the actual cord which can be rectified by ordering a replacement curly cord for the make and model of your handset. If it is not the curly cord and it is down to the phone system, we would recommend contacting us to obtain a price for a refurbished replacement and possibly consider sending the faulty phone away for repair.

If you are becoming frustrated because your desk phone isn’t functioning how it should, then before you start looking into new expensive phone systems, firstly check that all the handsets you are using are working to their full potential.

If you do decide you want to upgrade the handsets to ones with more functionality, then simply contact us and advise us what make and model you are looking to upgrade to and we will be happy to check the availability and costs for you of the more highly featured phones available for your telephone system and offer free advice by reply.
