Corona Virus and Cloud Phone Systems – With the imminent threat of the Corona Virus in the UK, some employers have made the decision to allow some of their employees to work from home as they seek to prevent the spread of the novel corona virus causing COVID-19.
Whilst some years ago this would have had a detrimental effect on businesses, nowadays with cloud technology, working from home has never been so easy.
Cloud phone systems deliver business phone extensions to any employee, anywhere that acts as one seamless system. Your work, home, and mobile phone can all be accessed through one phone number, so you can always stay connected to the office, giving you ultimate portability, with free inclusive outbound telephone calls to all UK landlines 01/02/03 and UK mobile numbers.
Please see below a summary of the different options available to your employees for working from home with their work phone extension.
Option 1 – Twinning Feature
Put simply, we can make anyone’s home or mobile phone number or even both numbers ring every time the phone on the desk rings giving the opportunity to answer the calls that way and just using mobiles or home lines to make calls.
Option 2 – Smart phone application
We can enable free of charge for any users a smart phone app once we know if they use Android or iOS and the user will receive instructions on how to download the app and an email to log into the platform from the app on their phone. Once opened the app will provide a version of the desk phone on their mobile which can use Wi-Fi for calls and it will behave like the desk phone for calls and also outbound calls so calls can be made putting out the same number their desk phone does.
Option 3 – PC phone application
This works the same as the above smart phone app however its and application that runs on PC and the user would need a USB headset to be able to use their PC as a phone with the software once installed.
Option 4 – Reconfigure phone system
Alternatively, we can reconfigure the phone system in the office to router calls differently to messages or external numbers.
Option 5 – Take you phone home and connect it to you home router
This option would mean simply taking the phone home and plugging it into your home router as the phone simply needs power and an Internet connection to function. You may require power supplies for the phones to work at home as you may have power fed through the ethernet network cabling at the office with equipment users wouldn’t normally have at home and there is a possibility that the user may need to troubleshoot their router firewall settings in the slim chance that it is set up to block the VoIP phone traffic and prevent the phone from functioning, this is rare however generally around 5% of users have this issue when taking their phone home.
